The simplest way to copy a job template is to create a dummy job based on the template you want to copy, then to save the dummy job as a template.
To create a copy of an existing job template:
- Select Jobs > Jobs > + Create New Job.
- On the New Job screen, add or change information about the new job. For more information about each of the fields, see the Data fields reference (New Job screen) section below.
- Save. A new job is created, based on the template you selected.
- On the job details screen, select Job Actions > Save Job as Template.
- On the New Job Template screen, add or change information about the new template. For more information about each of the fields, see the Data fields reference (New Job Template screen) section below.
- Save. A new job template is created, based on the job you created. The job details screen is displayed.
- Review the new template and make any additional changes you require. For details of data fields, see Edit a Job Template.

The job you create here is the basis of the new template. You can leave a number of data fields blank (or default value) as these do not need to be populated in the template you are creating.

Description | The description will be displayed in the Description field on the New Job screen when you select the template. It can be as detailed as you wish. |
Status | Leave as the default Status value. |
Category | Leave as blank. You can set the Job Category later, if required. |

Dates and staffing can be left as default values. Review and change Priority, if required. |

Job Category | A job category Job categories are primarily a way to group various types of jobs (or tracking categories in Xero) together for reporting and viewing purposes. Whenever a job is invoiced, the information specified in the category, such as Xero Tracking Category, Income Account and Cost of Sale Account, is brought across in the invoices that flow through to your accounting system. , if required. |
