Setting Task Rates

Tasks are the labour components of a job – the activities that staff perform as they work to complete the job. Tasks also allow you to define the structure and order of activities in a job.

Time can be recorded against specific tasks, and those tasks can display as line items on the invoice. A job must include at least one task if time is to be recorded against that job.

What to do

To change an existing task, go to Business > Settings > Tasks and click on the task name.

The task base rate and task billable rate are set to 0 by default, so for realistic billing and reporting, you'll need to update these settings in all the tasks you want to use during your free trial.

  • Base Rate. The task base rate reflects the cost to your business of an hour of work on this task, regardless of which staff member is doing the work. For your free trial, specify a value such as $100 to use for reporting purposes.
  • Billable Rate. The task billable rate is the cost to your client of an hour's work on this task, regardless of which staff member is doing the work. For your free trial, specify a value such as $150 to use for reporting purposes.

(optional) Create new tasks

After you have set the rates for one or more tasks, you might like to create additional tasks to add to your test jobs.
